Refers to anything feminine. In the context of masculinity, used as a derogatory term to call someone "effeminate."
Classical Persian
From the Persian zan meaning "woman" + suffix -āna meaning "pertaining to".
Since my childhood I had what the society considers a feminine walking style. Other boys used to make fun of me in school. Combined with the fact that I was growing up with only sisters, sometimes I would use, what my friends considered, feminine mannerism. So, they used to make fun of me by calling me Zanana. I did not really know what to do and who to talk to about this.
