nazar
gaze, sight, view, or evil eye
Arabic
"nazar" means "sight" in Classical Arabic, which is derived from the Arabic triconsonantal root N-Ẓ-R (ن-ظ-ر). Used as a shorthand for "evil eye" (nazar-e-bad).
I was buying some clothes in a market with my mother. Suddenly I heard someone behind me singing the song “akaili na bazar jaya karo, nazar lug jay ge” Don’t go to market alone. You will suffer from evil eye. I looked around to see who it was, and to my surprise it was a 10-12 year old boy who then winked at me when he saw me looking.
