ڈاہڈی
ḍāhḍī
fierce/strong
Sanskrit
Originates from the Sanskrit noun, "dardhya", meaning strength or hardness. The consonant clusters simplified in Prakit, undergoing a sound shift known as retroflexion, creating a strong "d" sound.
My mother was a strong person who wanted to pursue her career. She would speak up for herself when she felt others had wronged her. Naturally, it let to many fights at home. My nano was always apologetic about it. She used to tell my father that she knew her daughter was dahdi and that she was grateful for him being a gentleman to accommodate her. I always thought it meant that my father was a saint and my mother was somehow wrong. Only years later did I realize that she was doing things that opened so many doors for me.
